Short Bio:

Dr. Anna-Maria Pappa is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Khalifa University and a visiting scholar at Cambridge University. She was previously an Independent Oppenheimer research fellow at the Department of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology at Cambridge University and the Maudslay-Butler Research Fellow in Engineering at Pembroke College, Cambridge.

She has a Diploma in Chemical Engineering and an MSc in Nanotechnology (Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece). She completed her PhD studies in 2017 (University of Lyon, France) working on bioelectronic devices for healthcare diagnostics. In 2017 she received the L’Oreal-UNESCO Women in Science award for developing an innovative platform that can be used to test the efficacy of newly synthesized antibiotics and in 2019 she was listed on the Innovators under 35 MIT technology review.

She is currently an associate editor of Scientific Report, Frontiers in Electronics and Applied Physics Letters, AIP. Her current research interests lie in bio-integrated electronics based on conducting polymers and 2D materials.

Short Bio:

Filipe Freitas Pinto is a Medical Doctor specialized in Psychiatry and Mental Health.

Works as Chief Medical Officer at knokcare, being part of its founding team and having also been the Medical Director and Country Manager for Portugal since 2015. Manages a team of more than 250 doctors and designs/implements digital health programs for primary care.

Has an important experience in regulatory clinical research, in the roles of Research Physician and Principal Investigator for early-phase studies for new medicines. Since 2016 has taken part in more than 120 clinical trials with BlueClinical. Has been the head of Medical Writing at BlueClinical since January 2019 and presently occupies the role of Director of Business Development and Medical Writing.

Is also a frequent lecturer in the subjects of Digital Health in the context of post-graduation courses. Is a Ph.D. student in Neurosciences at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto.

Short Bio:

Sara Reis has expertise in the fields of business and the medtech area, with a background of over 12 years in technology commercialization, intellectual property rights (IPR) assessment and protection, negotiation of license agreements, formation of strategic partnerships, and overall business administration.

Her entrepreneurial journey began during her degree in Molecular Biology and Genetics, where she embarked on various entrepreneurial projects. She has built a relevant track record in technology transfer, working on interdisciplinary innovative projects in collaboration with leading universities in Portugal. Additionally, she worked in the expansion of a Portuguese medtech company in the USA.

Sara holds a master's degree in Economics and Management and, in 2017, she joined Frontier IP in the UK to manage and promote business activities for a portfolio of technological companies, with a particular focus on the medtech sector.

In 2020, she was appointed CEO of inSignals Neurotech, where she is executing the company's strategic vision and overseeing its business activities.

Sara has been important at this stage to the development and market launch preparation of the iHandU technology, actively supporting the commercialisation of such essential innovation in the neurology market.

Short Bio:

She has worked as an experimental physicist and data scientist at the Institute for Corpuscular Physics (IFIC, University of Valencia – CSIC), working on the analysis of large unstructured data sets collected with the ATLAS experiment at the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN), where she obtained her doctorate Cum Laude in Physics in 2018.

Dr. Cerdá currently leads and performs tasks related to biomedical image processing and the development of artificial intelligence algorithms and methodologies for the extraction of image biomarkers and prediction of relevant clinical outcomes.

Her main research lines include the harmonisation of imaging data, obtention of radiogenomic signatures, heterogeneity studies based on identifying tumour habitats, and the development of novel methodologies for feature selection and prediction of clinical endpoints for improving patient management in clinical practice. Dr. Cerdá has extensive experience in data analysis, image modelling with artificial intelligence (AI), development of image standardisation algorithms, extraction of quantitative parameters, automatic segmentation of organs and tumours, data acquisition, technical management, tutoring and outreach.

Dr. Cerdá is a member of several editorial boards of peer-reviewed journals and books, has authored or co-authored over 450 publications, and delivered many talks at radiological and clinical society meetings. She is a medical imaging and AI lecturer for official academic programmes at the University of Valencia and the Polytechnic University of Valencia.

Short Bio:

Ana Madureira (Senior Member, IEEE) was born in Mozambique, in 1969. She received the B.Sc. degree in computer engineering from ISEP, in 1993, the master’s degree in electrical and computers engineering–industrial informatics from FEUP, in 1996, and the Ph.D. degree in production and systems from the University of Minho, Portugal, in 2003.,She is currently a Coordinator Professor at the Institute of Engineering–Polytechnic of Porto (ISEP/IPP) and the Director of the Interdisciplinary Studies Research Center (ISRC). She is the author of more than 100 scientific articles in scientific conference proceedings, journals, and books, in the last few years. She has been an External Member Evaluation Committee of the Agency for Assessment and Accreditation of Higher Education - A3ES for the Scientific Area of Informatics of Polytechnic Higher Education, since 2012. She was the Chair of IEEE Portugal Section, from 2015 to 2017, and the Chair/Vice-Chair of IEEE-CIS Portuguese Chapter. She was the Department of IEEE R8 Educational Activities Sub-Committee, Chair of University, from 2017 to 2018. She was an IEEE R8 Secretary, from 2019 to 2020.

Short Bio:

Mike Hinchey will Chair the IEEE Global Public Policy Committee in 2022 and 2023. He was Chair of IEEE UK and Ireland Section (2018-2019) and has been Vice-Chair of the Computer Society’s Technical Activities Board and a co-founder and Chair of two IEEE-CS TCs, and a number of successful conference series. He serves on the IEEE Region 8 Membership Development Committee and has instigated a number of cross-section events. For 10 years, he was a column editor on Software Technology for Computer magazine and published a successful IEEE Press/Wiley book from the column. He re-joined the Computer editorial board in 2019.

He is President of the International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP), Emeritus Director of Lero—the Irish Software Research Centre, and Professor of Software Engineering at University of Limerick, Ireland, where he is also Head of Department. He was SEARCC Global ICT Professional of the Year in 2018.

Previously, Hinchey was the Director of the NASA Software Engineering Laboratory. He was awarded NASA’s Kerley Award as Innovator of the Year and is one of only 36 people inducted into the NASA Inventors Hall of Fame.

Hinchey holds a BSc in Computer Systems from the University of Limerick, an MSc in Computation from the University of Oxford, and a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Cambridge. He is the author/editor of more than 20 books and 200 papers and is a regular keynote speaker at IEEE conferences and events.

Hinchey is a Chartered Engineer, Chartered Mathematician, and Charted Information Technology Professional, as well as a Fellow of the IET, Engineers Australia, Engineers Ireland, BCS, and Irish Computer Society, of which he is current President, and Honorary Fellow of Computer Society of India. He is Editor-in-Chief of Innovations in Systems and Software Engineering: a NASA Journal and Journal of the Brazilian Computer Society.
